Neighbours Helping Neighbours is one of the many outreach programs House of Lazarus offers. The Neighbours Helping Neighbours Outreach Program was created with the objective to improve the quality of life of people in need.
This program encompasses a variety of activities that will help maintain stability in the lives of those in need. This program aims to help with basic needs, including transportation, food security, and housing stability. This program is intended to “bridge the gaps” that exist between government funded programs and the people in need of food, transportation and/or housing by using community resources. Community resources may include local businesses, donations, and volunteers.
Some of the many things that are done through this program are: car repairs, we have a local mechanic that donates his time and charges what he pays for parts. We fill up people’s oil tanks or propane tanks; we give gas cards to our clients so they can go to appointments and get groceries; we have also paid dental bills when needed. These are some of the things that most of us take for granted, and through this program we can help our clients with one less worry.
Community donations and proceeds from our Ladies Night Out fundraiser support this program. This year the pandemic has cancelled our fundraiser however we know that the needs will be greater than ever. Thank you for your support.
AND/OR
St. Paul’s Community Garden is a relatively new project in Winchester and is becoming well known in the neighbourhood. All the produce is donated to Community Food Share and dozens of volunteers offer countless hours throughout the growing season. The fresh food is well appreciated to the growing number of people who are food insecure.
Leslie Levere and Tom Clapp are our best contacts and every year they keep us up to date.
This year, we are encouraged to sign up to volunteer [Leslie is our volunteer contact] and to offer financial support in purchasing mulch, seeds and plants for the 2021 garden season.
Donations can be included in your church donation envelope [please include a note with your request to support one or both of these ministries].
Together in God's loving presence!
