WHAT IS MESSY CHURCH? (quarterly event)
It is called “Messy Church” because playing with play-dough, or decorating cupcakes, or eating spaghetti or jumping up and down while singing are different ways of being church.
Messy Church is a program idea that began in Britain and is now spreading to other parts of the world. One way to describe the event is with the 4 “C’s” :
Chill together – spend time together with other families exploring and sharing the Christian story.
Create together – a time to allow our creativity to show through various crafts and activities
Celebrate together –sing/story, we follow a theme at each event in a relaxed way.
Chew together – the time ends with sharing a simple supper together.
The typical Messy Church schedule:
3:30 - 4:00 pm: gathering, activities, conversation
4:00 - 4:30 pm: music, theme introduction, story, prayer
4:30 - 5:15 pm: various activities: crafts, play-dough, discussion, (adults can sometimes help with the cooking or just watch the kids get messy!)
5:15 - 5:30 pm: gathering again, music, story
5:30 - 6:30 pm: meal provided, free-will donation
- An interactive and inter-generational Christian get together that’s big on hospitality and fun. There’s crafts, music, worship and community building.
